5 Common diet mistakes to avoid
I have been a trainer a long time, and I have helped lots of people with their diet. Not only clients, but friends, family, colleagues, basically a lot of people. I also have done over the phone, mobile training and helped people with their diet. From all that I've seen, these 5 issues seem to be very common:
1. Not eating enough protein at each meal - people will skip breakfast and lunch protein, and then have something small for dinner. Protein, at least in small amounts, should be eaten at all meals! Even if you're not trying to bulk up.
2. Eating too many starchy carbs at each meal - very easy to do with bread, fries, chips, rice, etc. If you're trying to lose weight however, keeping starchy carbs low will be key. Not eliminating starchy carbs, just minimizing them.
3. Not eating enough vegetables - plant contains tons of important nutrients and vitamins that keep our body running smoothly. Vegetables contain dietary fiber, a cornerstone to any healthy diet.
4. Not drinking enough water - drinking a glass or water bottle at each meal should be standard, also drinking some throughout the day. Being hydrated is another key component to weight loss.
5. Eating unhealthy snacks like crackers, chips, chocolate, candy, donuts, etc. - often times left at the work place, or brought home by another family member, so they sit there and are hard to avoid! Just take a break from these foods and only use them as a reward once in a while. Healthier snacks include unsalted nuts, low sugar protein bars, vegetables like edamame, berries and other low sugar fruits.
