The best way to avoid cravings
We all know what cravings are, when you're hungry, even starving; and you need some specific type of food (usually either very sweet, salty, or fatty). Unfortunately, once we reach this point, there is often no going back. Our body makes us feel like we need this food. The trick is then, to not get into this position in the first place. Yes, it's easier said than done, but there are ways to prevent or at least lessen cravings.
The BEST way to avoid cravings? Don't eat salty, sugary, or fatty foods in the first place! Eating healthier foods, specifically lean meats and vegetables, will put your body into a healthy state. Whole food containing dietary fiber stabilizes your blood sugar, fills you up, and gives you energy for the immediate future. Bad food causes blood sugar dips and spikes, gets digested more quickly, and often results in a food coma after a meal.
Another key to avoiding cravings is staying hydrated and not drinking diet sodas. Sometimes we can confuse thirst with hunger, I know that I do. If you drink a glass or two of water instead of eating that second helping, you might feel better after the meal and save yourself a bunch of calories as well. Diet soda has been scientifically proven to actually make people eat more, I know that I definitely get cravings after drinking it. So make good decisions in the morning, and allow that momentum to continue through the rest of the day. Don't eat junky foods in the first place, and you will want them less! It's a vicious cycle that should be avoided.
